new shipment of blue/cyan stars in stock

Welcome to SMGS.

We are a small shop that is in the business of providing both production and custom high power LED lighting alternatives to replace the current Metal halide systems with modern LED lighting. We can provide you with anything from a pendent light to replace a 400 watt metal halide; a set of retro fit fixtures to install in an existing/new hood design, all the way down to a small 25 watt equivalent light for a 5 gallon nano tank.

Are you looking to set up a frag tank system? Are you a local fish store that wants to save money on electric/cooling bills? Then we can help

If a turnkey package is not for you then we can also provide a one stop shop for all you do-it-yourself people who are looking for kits or components to make your own assemblies. We provide complete, tested, constant current boards with trim ability for higher currents, heat sinks (cut to order) and the LED clusters needed to get the lumen output and color temperature you are looking for.

We can give you a solid turnkey replacement for your metal halide light system starting at $650.00 for a 13.75 inch version that replaces a 400 watt metal halide. We can light your six foot tank for about $1800.00, allowing you to use the difference to buy the other necessities like calcium reactors, protein skimmers, etc.

We have always used rebels for our led units, other led reef lighting systems started by using, Luxeon  III, then K5, and now their last revision uses rebels.

What makes us different from the others?

We do not mass produce lights; we make the light with the end user in mind. Yes it is easy and cheap to place the LED, power supply, lens, and the other components on one board, and then control multiple LEDs with one circuit. However, the problem is that one LED failure results in the loss of an entire board, which in one manufacturer's case can be a $500.00 replacement cost. We provide a separate control circuit to each LED cluster, and the led cluster is not an integral part of the board. What does this mean to you? It means that if an LED fails you can replace it yourself for about $30, and you can still run the light while waiting for the replacement LED to arrive.

LED replacement consists of loosening two mounting bolts and two screw lugs then removing the LED and reinstalling the new one in reverse order after applying heat sink compound to the back of the LED.

This also means that when better, brighter, more efficient, or having greater power handling, LEDs become available, you can do future upgrades for color, light output, etc. just as you can with your metal halide system. Without having to dim you lights (read produce less light) to get a color change or the newest most efficient led.

What makes LED technology better then Metal Halide?

The LEDs have a 10 year life expectancy, which means that you don't have to change out bulbs every year, saving you money.

LEDs are more efficient then Metal Halides, less heat goes in tank, and into the room where chillers have to remove it, and air conditioners have to work to cool your house. LED technology saves you money every month in electricity costs.

With LEDs the heat is vented upwards out of your tank, unlike Metal halides that radiate the heat downwards like a heat lamp. this means better heat control of your tank, less heat drift from day to night cycle, and no need for a chiller.

You can mount LED lights just two inches above your tank, which means all the light goes in your tank and is not splashed over the walls like Metal halide fixtures tend to do. More light in your tank and less loss due to side splash means all the light get to your Corals.

 Please Enjoy Your Stay.

Please take some time and look around the site, when you have decided which way you would like to light your tank then please let us know how we can help you.

Thank you,
